Historical Reenacting

Historical reenacting has been a great source of inspiration for my work and the images I’ve captured over the years have been a great resource for me when creating a painting with historical content. The images, along with all the sounds and smells experienced while “on the line” with thousands of other men in the dead of summer dressed in multi-layered wool uniforms firing double-loads of black powder. Through reenacting I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many interesting people from all walks of life, all of us brought together by a common love for history. I can now recall on countless hot, sweaty days on the field and freezing cold nights around the fire with my “Pards” when preparing for another historical piece, but mostly I will remember passing the bottle around while waiting my turn to read from the giant book of limericks… and the hard laughter with friends that always followed.
